At the most, however, you should not adjust your thermostat to more than 85 degrees. At a maximum of 85 degrees, you will be able to ensure that your home maintains a safe humidity level without worrying that your home will become too hot.

SETTING YOUR THERMOSTAT TO AUTOMATIC

It’s also a good idea to make sure that your fan is set to the automatic mode rather than having it set to run continuously. By setting your fan to Auto, your air conditioner will only run when necessary to maintain the temperature at which you have set your thermostat. This gives you the ability to save money and energy.

Whether furnace, heat pump, or another form of heater, you don’t want it to go out. Are you experiencing no heat? Here’s what to do to see if you can get your heater going. Please only proceed if you are comfortable with the following tasks.

1. CHECK THE POWER

All heaters use some form of power from electricity to propane to natural gas. A lack of power may be the cause. One of the most common causes of lack of power to the heater is a blown fuse. Fuses can be overloaded and will shut off. Be sure to check the fuse box and give the switch assigned to the HVAC system a flip. Be sure to contact a professional if you believe a gas leak is a reason you have no heat.

2. CHECK YOUR AIR FILTER

If you can’t remember the last time you changed your heater’s air filter, that may be the issue. Air filters take in all the contaminants passing through the unit. After a period of time, they become clogged and can stop the heater from working. Consult your owner’s manual for the location of the filter and examine it. Replace it if it is clogged to see if that addresses the issue.

3. CHECK YOUR THERMOSTAT

Your thermostat may not be properly sending the signal to your heater to engage at a certain temperature. Try turning it up or down to see if the unit powers on. Change the batteries if it uses them.
